Weekends with Archie

Welcome Year 2007!

January 13, 2007

Yes, I know this post must have been late already, but the academic load for the past two weeks didn't give me the opportunity.  So in the middle of January when no one seems to feel the celebration anymore, let me shout to everyone:  HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

New year resolutions?  Nah, I better put it as my hopes and dreams.  No grand promises, but simply hopes.  After all, the real action is the ultimate measure of it all.

Anyway, I have nothing particular for my new year's resolution.  But I'm pretty sure this year would really be a life-changing one for me.  Many things are meant to happen - graduation (awgh, goodbye Ateneo), work (soon I will be part of the unemployment stats) and from this point onwards, life changing begins.  Things are really ought to change and I am taking them one thing at a time so as not to preempt the uncertainty of the future.  As for now, simple hopes and dreams will do.

1.  Exercise and jog and work-out.  I'm getting fatter and flabbier each day!

2.  Blog every Friday so that you can have a healthy conversation with your self (and of course others).  It's keeping track what significantly forms you every day that you spend here on earth.   Hence, the title of the blog.

3.  Save.  Simply save.

4.  Punctuality is now the best policy.

5.  More to come..  Why so?

Because I believe that resolutions aren't just made on the 1st day of January.  They are made everyday of the year!  Because we are always called to do more than just what we are ought to do.  We might fail and fall but hopes and dreams will never cease away.  Dream on and live life.

Happy New Year everyone!

For the people who I haven't met for a long time, just leave a note on my message board below.  Hopefully we can meet and say hi again to each other this year!

Eastwood New Year: different but memorable

New Year Celebration of 2007 - different but indeed memorable.

We were in Eastwood (again) that time apparently because we wanted to feel life than to hear the silence of the dorm.  This time, we were three! A freshman dormer who also wasn't able to spend the holidays with his family eagerly accompanied us.

Not surprisingly, Eastwood was full of people!  I was expecting that since this is Manila, the sight of young people in bars and concert places would just be normal, plus a free street concert could even invite them more.  But what really caught my attention is not the sight of the yuppies and the teens but surprisingly, the presence of the dads and the moms, some even with the lolos and the lolas, and of course the apos.

Maybe they were all waiting for the fireworks.  Maybe it is more convenient and cheaper to go outside.  Maybe time really changes.

For me, I guess it's a wise and practical decision to go to Eastwood instead of buying firecrackers that could cost a lot and that could pose more danger if held not carefully.  That definitely defeats the celebration!  Wherever you are on New Year's Eve, the most important thing is that you get to spend your Buenas Noche with your dearest family.  As for me, I may have not spent it this year with them, but wherever I am, I know for sure that my presence transcends for them.

Twenty seconds before the clock ticked twelve, I felt my cellphone vibrate.  It was a call from my mom!  Together with the loud and enthusiastic countdown of the crowd, I answered my phone and shared the countdown too with them.  Five.. four.. three.. two.. one..  "Happy New Year, Me, De and Jun", I cried.  "I got to spend my New Year with them!", I said to myself. Fireworks then began lighting up the sky!

It was not a lonely new year for me after all.  Perhaps different but indeed memorable!

"No matter how happy or sad the past year was, it is the new year of 2007 that I am most hopeful of.  Happy new year to everyone!  And may God's light and love be with us all."
