Weekends with Archie

P&G or IBM?

April 28, 2007

Finally! After weeks of long wait, my prayers were answered.  I made a follow-up on both my target companies and before the week ends, I received a positive result.

P&G logoWednesday afternoon, I received a call from P&G telling me about an interview on Monday, 9am. They are trying to finalize and arrange an offer for me under Information Decisions Support function.

IBM logoThursday night, I received a call from IBM Business Services and they congratulated me for being selected in their first fast-track ExtremeBlue Management Training Program. I am expected to be in their office on Monday as well at 3pm.

So now, I have to choose. I have to consider different factors like my interest, career trajectory, company culture, work benefits and compensation. Actually, I also received an offer in Sales from Monde Nissin last Wednesday when I was in their Step Up program. The offer gave me second thoughts about my options since the work will be based in Davao. However, I guess I would turn it down since the line of work is totally not related to what I practiced in college and compared to the two other big companies, career growth is incomparable.  People are also asking what happened to Globe since I had my internship there.  Well, they haven't started recruiting yet for their BMAP and it would be risky to wait while good companies are already considering you.

Nevertheless, for everything that has been, I wanted to thank God for giving me this opportunity. Having assured of a work is a blessing for me and for my family. Patience is indeed a virtue and prayers are really answered if He wills it for you.

If you have any tips or advice that can help me decide, please don't hesitate to leave me a note.  Thanks! :)

Hey archie. congrats! i know that you really have a very big decision to make. i can’t tell you anything about P&G because i haven’t had any experience there yet. but i already gave you what i think about IBM. well, the good thing about your IBM offer is that it is a fast-track program, so when it comes to career growth, this is a very good option. but then again, you have other things to consider. you might not have the luxury of time to really weigh your options but prayer is always helpful. god bless. :)

congrats! sorry, i just really felt like leaving a note here. kilala mo pa ako? si paolo to, atsca alum dati. i’m working for IBM now here in the US as a software engineer. ExtremeBlue is IBM’s MOST prestigious internship or training program (depending kung student or grad ka). it’s widely recognized as one of the top training programs in the tech industry around the world. you can go into ANY self-respecting tech employer in the US, Europe, or Asia and it’s a guaranteee they’ll know what Extreme Blue is, and you’re virtually marketable to anyone.

hi pao of b6! of course, i remember you, you were the first one to describe to me what our course really was about, hehe..:) yup, i was able to browse through ibm’s website and ExtremeBlue seems pretty much prestigious. But i already accepted p&g’s offer. IBM Business Services is actually a new subsidiary formed by P&G people themselves so the culture, training and career more or less would be the same. And the program is yet a pioneer program among all ibm philippine subsidiaries. Nevertheless, being selected in the pool is already a privilege. Wow, galing mo, good luck in your career there!:) Pag-uwi mo, libre! hehe..:)

Hi Lorra! :) Long time no see ah.. Where are you now? Well, about the P&G app process, they’re pretty fast if there really is a vacancy. You may want to make follow ups to give you updates about your application but i know they’ll surely keep your records active once you passed the exam.:)
